The Disclosure & Barring Service announced enhancements to their ID checking guidelines in September 2012.
The changes, part of an on-going improvement strategy to strengthen the identity checking process, detail the three route process that should be undertaken when checking individuals who need to provide ID documents to obtain a disclosure through the DBS.
Route Two of the new criteria requires an external ID validation check, which verifies the identity details (such as name, address and date of birth) of a DBS check applicant. We are able to provide any organisation with the facility to undertake this process.
Our end-to-end External ID Validation process is triggered by an email request to our dedicated mailbox. Simply provide the details supplied by the applicant and we will complete the check within 24 hours (within working hours Monday - Friday) and reply back to you by return email.
Our External ID Validation & Authentication check delivers a range of benefits to customers involved in the ID checking process, including:
Compliance with DBS (formerly CRB) guidelines – conforms to the standard required by Level 2 (remote) of HMG's Minimum Requirements for the Verification of the Identity of Individuals/Version 2.0/January 2003 standard, and is delivered in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998
Provides a full audit trail – all the details relating to each check are retained indefinitely for easy retrieval at a future date, helping to ensure that both internal and external audit requirements are satisfied
Quickly verifies applicants – Results of the External ID Validation check will be returned to you with a clear 'PASS' or 'FAIL' status
