The long awaited CIFAS report on employee fraud has finally been released. The 2016 report releases figures for the year 2015 based on 585 reported cases of internal fraud, nearly 200 less than those reported in 2014. However the number of organisations reporting fraud was up by 10%.
Biggest areas for concern were account fraud by employees with the majority being noticed by customers themselves, dishonest action by staff to obtain a benefit, by theft or disception and as previously, false information by candidates on employment applications.
The report again highlights the necessity of having an effective counter-fraud policy in place and the necessity to screen not only prospective employees, but current employees on a regular basis.
