What do background checks involve?
The level of information we will ask you to supply will be dependent on the checks that have been requested on your behalf, and are often determined by the industry sector, role and level of role to which you are applying.
Our goal is to help you secure the position offered to you as quickly and painlessly as possible. But we need your help to do that. It is important that all information provided is accurate and provided as soon as you are able. This will ensure that delays are kept to a minimum and will help us reduce any additional contact with you later in the process.

Let’s get started on your application form
Personal Details
In this section we ask for your personal information: for example, your date of birth, contact details or nationality. This information is used in a variety of ways; mainly so that we can ensure we request references or checks for the correct person, but some questions are needed for specific checks.
Address history
We will need to know a continuous history of all the addresses you have lived in for a certain period of time, dependent on the checks you are undergoing. This information is used for financial probity and criminality checks, but is also useful should a previous employer or academic institution have difficulties locating your records.
Employment and Education / Qualifications and Memberships
A large proportion of employers wish to confirm your employment activity over a set period of time via references. We will need to know of any employments, self-employments and education periods you had and any periods of unemployment, whether this is a sabbatical, actively seeking employment or travelling.
Declarations
We will require you to provide a declaration with regards to you financial and criminal backgrounds.
Understand your rights when it comes to screening
Before starting screening, Security Watchdog will ask for an online form to be completed. This will provide the information that is required to complete the checks that have been requested.
Security Watchdog complies with the principles of UK GDPR and will never request information that is not directly linked to the checks that have been requested by your employer on your behalf and with your consent.
