Digital Identity Checks

As of 6th April 2022, employers can now use identification document validation technology (‘IDVT’) service providers to digitally verify the identity of British and Irish citizens with valid passports, instead of sighting the original document in a face to face meeting, to confirm right to work.

As the move towards a more digital existence has increased, so has the need for more advanced online security. Without a standard in digital ID, it is down to individual firms to determine whether the tools and methods they choose are sufficient to protect their business from fraud.

Digital identity checks are the government approved way to confirm the identity digitally, without meeting an applicant face to face or seeing an original document.
